Ventures top Hi-Sierra Base Camp http://www.sccc-scouting.org/sccc/program/camping/chs/base Hi-Sierra Base Camp is for scouts 14 and older. Activities include mountain biking, climbing/rappelling, sailing, kayaking and backpacking. The trails are long. The water is cold. The cliffs are steep. The rewards are priceless. If you are in good physical condition and prepared to challenge yourself then this is for you! aka GTSR http://www.gec-bsa.org/glacialtrails/page1.html GTSR offers Scouts a fantastic summer adventure. A wilderness camp located seven miles north of Cisco Grove, California off of I-80 at an elevation of 6700', each unit has its own campsite. Scouts camp in tents, cooking their meals by patrols, or eating at our new dinning facility. The GTSR program includes opportunities for advancement for scouts seeking First Class, as well as challenges to those seeking high adventure. The Glacial Trek is a six-day, 50-mile trek through mountainous terrain, sparkling lakes and streams. Trout abound in the cold waters of the high mountain backcountry lakes, and the views are breath taking. GTSR also offers Mountain Biking Treks, Rock Climbing, Mountain man Program, and a unique Build Your Own Program week.
Fages 20 Mile Hike The
20-mile loop is done only as a controlled hike with members of the
OA (now Ut-in Sélica Lodg The Fages II, as it is called, is typically held on the last Saturday in October before Daylight Savings ends and the first Saturday in June. In addition to providing a hike to complete the Hiking Merit Badge, the OA awards a special patch (right) to the 20-mile hikers. The Skyline to the Sea Trail is a 30+ mile hiking trail in the Santa Cruz Mountains. It descends from the ridge west of Saratoga at Castle Rock State Park onHighway #35 through both Castle Rock and Big Basin Redwoods State Parks to the Pacific Ocean at Rancho del Oso (Highway #1 and Waddell Beach). The Trail offers spectacular vistas, a wide variety of flora and fauna, and overnight trail camps. (Check with the State Park rangers on the availability of fresh water at the camps when making your reservations.) The Trail parallels much of Highway #9 and #236 until arriving at the Headquarters of Big Basin Redwoods State Park. Hikers can walk west along Highway #35 to begin the trail, but you are encouraged to walk, instead, into the Castle Rock Trail Camp and Park Headquarters and then take the Saratoga Gap Trail to Highway #9. There is much to see in this area of Castle Rock State Park and it is well worth the extra effort and time! Florida National High Adventure Sea Base operates nine different adventures
out of three different locations: two in the Florida Keys, and one in
Marsh Harbour, Bahamas. Scouting's most complete aquatic facility offers
a complete variety of water activities from SCUBA diving to sailing "Tall
Ships". All of our participants have the opportunity to swim, snorkel,
and fish among the most beautiful coral reefs in the northern hemisphere.
Double H Ranch http://www.scouting.org/philmont/doubleh/index.html Started in the summer of 2004, the Double H High Adventure Base is Philmont Scout Ranch's newest program. Located on the Torstenson Family Wildlife Center in Datil, New Mexico, the Double H is over 100,000 acres of rugged wilderness.1 feet. Seven-day backpacking programs give crews the freedom to hike without trails. A Wilderness Guide (Double H staff member) accompanies the crew for the entire trek. Programs provided at the Martin (backcountry) Camp and the Wilderness Guide include geocaching, GPS navigation skills, challenge/team building events, black powder shooting, archery, astronomy, conservation projects, search & rescue, and more. Camp Mirimichi http://www.campkern.net/program/highadventure.php Camp Mirimichi is located in an area of the Sierra National Forest nestled between two of the most beautiful national parks in the west, Yosemite and Kings Canyon National Parks. Running within miles of Huntington Lake are the Pacific Crest and John Muir Trails as well as the Kaiser and John Muir Wildernesses. Some of the high venture programs offered are: COPE Rock Climbing (including Climbing MB) Hobie Cat Sailing Shotgun Shooting (trap, action, skeet) Advanced NRA Awards (Blackpowder, Rifle, Shotgun) Pistol Marksmanship (Ventures only) Mountain Biking Backpacking Treks (1-4 days) Snorkeling Sail Boarding Log Cabin Wilderness Base CampAdministered by the Los Angeles Area Council, Log Cabin Wilderness is a high altitude base camp located above the 10,000 feet elevation in the eastern Sierra Nevadas. It is close to the east gateway to Yosemite National Park. The camp has an authentic log cabin, a real gold mine, and three nearby peaks to climb. The program offers ten guided trail experiences that provide Scouts with 7-8 days of team building, leadership, rock climbing, and ice axe experience in the High Sierras. Also provided is a full COPE course and classes in backcountry cooking and stoves, first aid, backcountry ethics, sanitation, and map and compass, The camp has four one-week sessions over the summer from about late July to mid-August. One or two day trips. Your first day will take you on the "Wilderness Run", through an isolated canyon, inaccessible by any other means. Along the way, you stop at the Escape Ranch, get out of the boat and enjoy a nice lunch - prepared for you on a grill in the shade of one of the oldest cottonwoods on the river. After lunch, you encounter the rapids "Oh S---!" and the "Wall". The classic beauty and fascinating ecosystems of the Sierra Nevada mountain range are well represented in the wilderness of Yosemite National Park. Almost 95% of the Park is designated Wilderness. A place retaining its primeval character and influence, this wilderness area provides opportunities for solitude and unconfined types of experience. The lands within the wilderness range in elevation and life zones from 2,900' to 13,114' at the summit of Mt. Lyell. With over 800 miles of trail, visitors will find a spectrum of opportunities, of natural systems, and of levels of use.
